The Velociteers

The Velociteers gave their first unique performance at the first Art in the Dark event in October 2010, and since then have continued to delight Auckland with their unique routines and synchronised cycling dance moves. This year, a team of eight Velociteers will perform a series of choreographed routines to music enhanced by dazzling lighting effects.

From Victorian ladies gracefully cycling in formation, to the Portland based Sprockettes drawing on cheerleading and burlesque on their bikes, the grace and versatility of the bicycle has been realised in dance routines since its inception. The Velociteers proudly take their place in the history of bicycle dance. Their routines reference folk dance, weaving, flowers and marching girls, and reflect the heritage and diversity of the performance. They celebrate the best of cycling culture: lit up, joyful, sustainable and lycra-free.
