Angus Muir Up in the Trees

Up in the trees is an interactive light installation incorporating movement, sound and LED lights. Western Park is considered one of Auckland’s most distinguished public spaces and also maybe one of the oldest parks in Auckland. The major development of the park in 1874 involved the planting of over 1100 trees. This installation pays tribute to the history of the park and invites the people of Auckland to come and interact with it.

Angus will suspend LED lit lanterns from trees in Western Park, and through motion capture, colour changing and audio technologies, the lanterns will interact with the real time movements and sounds of Western Park. Even the smallest of these - like clapping or footsteps - will effect a real time "playing" of the lanterns. Angus' lanterns are extremely energy efficient, and the entire installation will draw less than 200 watts.
