Adelle Rodda

Adelle Rodda's piece for Art in the Dark will allow music to be experienced visually by passing sound waves through a liquid medium.

As sound waves from speakers travel through illuminated, liquid filled tanks, they will create ripples and patterns in the liquid. The music that causes these ripples has not been composed with specific frequencies and harmonics in mind, which will allow the sound to determine its own visual representation.

The tanks will be suspended in trees, allowing viewers to walk through the projections and become part of the installation. As the rippled surface of the liquid will act as a lens, patterns will be projected below and above the tanks. When light waves hit the disturbances in the liquid they will refract and reflect, creating constantly moving and changing images.

The music for this piece was composed by Sven Petterson.
