The inaugural Art in the Dark event is exploring and exploding the ideas of ‘Community, Environment and Utopias’.

Under the cover of darkness, artists will address these core values while exploring the implications of mobility, night, sky and light.

Art in the Dark is a collaboration between artists, businesses and community initiatives in the Grey Lynn and Ponsonby area to celebrate and foster community. 

A night-time event in Ponsonby's Western Park, Art in the Dark will be environmentally friendly and interactive. Illuminated by installations, projected short films, and performances around a purpose-built pavilion, the park will transform into a temporary community hub. We hope people will be inspired by participating in Art in the Dark  to come together and work towards creating a utopia in their communities.

Art in the Dark is concerned with developing new structures for social organisation and sustainability, and so welcomes contributions of materials, expertise or time from members of the Grey Lynn and Ponsonby community. 

Art in the Dark will début in mid-October 2010, with a series of smaller events and workshops for artists and supporters before the big night. Check back here soon for more info, and join our Facebook group for event updates!
